Meeting the needs of the Hospital for Women and Children

Whay a packet? ITEM LIST HAS CHANGED!!!

When the Shelby Team went to Mali they found that many of the baby things sent needed to be put together in a packet as a set the nurses could open, dress the baby and then hand to the mother. There were many great things churches had sent to Mali but no one has time to build these packets, they all have jobs to do.

So, we determined we would put the packets together before they left the States.

We need over 4000 per year. Some people are good at baby gowns, some at booties. Send what you can and we'll put together the packets. If you want to put together your own packets, here are the things we found were necessary and easy to manage.

*
Baby Blanket - light or medium weight
*
Newborn or Preemie T-Shirt or Short Kimono (prefer not onesies, not long gowns- they don't diaper their babies - we can cut off your onesie and hem it)
*
Baby cap - prefer T-Shirt material but knitted/crocheted are great, too!
*
Baby Booties or small socks - T-Shirt material, knitted or crocheted (remember for newborn at largest)
*
1 or 2 Disposable Diapers - primarily for hospital stay of one day
*
Add small plastic toy if you want
Put it all together in a large Zip-Lock and label whether preemie or newborn. If blanket makes packet to large for Zip-Lock, find plastic bag of some type to protect contents. We packed ours in gallon zip-locks.
